Rita Hernández is a beautiful, sophisticated woman and the widow of the son of wealthy businessman Don Abelardo Solís. Living with him is his adopted daughter, Isabel, who distrusts Rita. Don Abelardo also has another son, Emilio—born of a relationship with the housekeeper, Soledad Martínez. Don Abelardo intends to leave his inheritance to Emilio (who is dating Isabel), but Rita—knowing that being cut out of the will would mean losing all rights to the money and business—plots her father-in-law's murder. She gathers four accomplices—Jacqueline, Marcial, Raúl, and Germán—and they draw lots to select who will carry out the sinister deed, keeping the chosen person's identity a secret. Everything unfolds exactly as Rita planned; her next step is to frame Emilio for his father's death, thereby gaining free rein to manage the fortune and the business however she pleases.
