Flashback
In the Second World War, in Emilia, during the retreat, a German soldier placed on sentry duty falls asleep in a tree. The next morning he wakes up abandoned by his fellow soldiers. Instead of returning to his unit, the soldier remains on the tree to observe the spring nature and reflect on some episodes from his past, which have slowly transformed him from man to murderer.
